Hi! I’m Angela, the creator of MousterWorks. In 2021, I made a personal art challenge that re-envisioned 54 masterpieces by well- and lesser-known artists. I hid two mice in each illustration, posted my art to social media on Mondays, and voila—MousterWorks was born! To share my love of fine art with a wider audience (especially children), I selected nineteen paintings, then wrote and illustrated MousterWorks. This picture book follows Grand-mère, Cosette, and Pépin Mouse as they visit the MousterWorks Art Museum. They explore paintings and their senses—and search for cheese!
Recreating paintings by the masters has been a beautiful experience. This ages-long practice has refined my artistry and illuminated details in each masterpiece I might not have otherwise seen. It’s also given me a window to peek into lives from long ago. This gift has helped me ponder, respect, and love people more. I hope MousterWorks gives you a small taste of that experience.
I believe that people who are exposed to fine art have an opportunity to connect with others from the past and present. Art also gives us a voice to express our unique perspectives. It also lets us examine the world from different dimensions. And although our world is brim-full of different cultures, social statuses, and opinions, art shows that there is so much more within us that unites.
